Know the difference and which will work for you.
An estimate is basically a ‘guesstimate’ or rough, educated guess based on what a job MAY cost. Often it is supplied either before we know all the details of a particular piece of work (such as during an initial call from a prospective new customer) or during a site visit.
Estimates are your first thoughts on costs and can change drastically when you get further information, or the scope of what you have been asked to do increases or decreases.
Key point: An estimate is an informal idea of price based on limited information. Consider it a starting point in terms of costs, which can go up (or down). Estimates CANNOT be used as a legal standpoint for price.
A quote (or quotation) is an exact price for the job being offered. As such, it is fixed and CANNOT be changed once it has been accepted by the customer (unless the customer changes the amount/type of work required or we discover something completely outside of the scope of what was agreed, which would require a change work order to be completed and accepted by both parties).
Quotes are only issued by us after an onsite visit, and when we are confident that we have established exactly what is needed for your specific project.
Key point: It’s important to remember that quotes are presented formally and represent a contract between us and the customer. As such they can be used as legal standpoints for price should a dispute arise.
We can help you with your potential project one of two ways.
The first is, we can give you a price range almost immediately with some basic information via phone or text format. You can figure out if that fits within what you’re willing to spend on your project, and if we should take the next step together.
The second is our on-site consultation and pricing promise (or quotation). These are paid consultation & quotation services for our time, where we will provide you with our years of knowledge, produce a formal scope of work, help with selections and promise you a price.
Accurately pricing a larger renovation is never as easy as calling up 3 or more contractors to come out to your home or business to make estimations on how much something might cost.
There are many variables and considerations that must be made prior to construction and worked out with the contractor you hire.
The larger and more complex your project is, the time and effort spent on planning for it, will be rewarded. Your project will require individual attention to detail, and results will vary according to each and every situation.
Ultimately, the cost of your renovation will be up to you and the decisions you make with the contractor of your choice. It is our goal to help you find the right contractor for your project, even if that is not us.
